Everyday Bliss with Mantras

Updated: May 2, 2021

Our true intelligence does not derive from brain or intellect, which are only its instruments, but is based in universal consciousness. Mantras take us there each meditation.

Mantras are used for all the facets of life. In Vedic history, there are four categories that define us. Dharma is your primary purpose, vocation, work or career in life. Artha helps to facilitate dharma by achieving goals and objects such as property and financial assets. Kama is happiness created through fulfilling desires that help you express, support, and expand one's dharma. Moksha liberates our spirit to enlightenment through the regular practice of meditation and mindful movement as we reach our inner heights.

One of my teachers, Dr. David Frawley aka Pandit Vamadeva Shastri, eloquently wrote in Mantra Yoga and Primal Sound, "Before we ascend, we must first descend. To bring the power of speech inward and downward is the work of the yoga of sound, whether as music, nada or mantra." When we use a mantra to focus on in meditation, we can open up our energy centers and tap into a boundless source of serenity, creativity, and healing.

When using a mantra during meditation, the goal is to be gentle and curious with the words. The words are used for their vibration in our consciousness, so it is better to let go and surrender to the pace and tone of the mantra that is right for you in the moment rather than forcing the mantra. Remember that the mantra takes us to increased levels of consciousness where your real, infinite self waits for you. As a stream of awareness, treat the mantra and yourself lovingly and your meditations will be one of the best parts of your day.

So try on this mantra during your next meditation:

Prajnanam Brahma

Intelligence is Brahman

Our true intelligence does not derive from brain or intellect, which are only its instruments, but is based in universal consciousness. Repeat Prajnanam Brahma a minimum of nine times during your meditation to soak in the insights.

Your intelligence is your true self being in harmony with what your body and soul need to shine bright. May this mantra bring healing, joy, and fulfillment wherever it is needed. Namaste
